Hemingway could be horrified by black mirror, but he couldn’t find the Nissan pulsar tweet funny
Why are comedy and horror so incompatible, Lovecraft’s fear of being Welsh is a great example.
Why don’t characters evolve in comedy. They do more often in horror. In both cases it’s usually a non-psychological evolution, e.g. a metamorphosis/body-swap.
The arguments that horror sucks because it’s base also seem to apply to porn. But I guess arousal and fear have different phenomenologies. It seems easier to very suddenly be scared than suddenly aroused. Also you can orgasm, which (if you’re a guy) will suddenly greatly change you’re impression of the art, but there’s not really an equivalent with horror. Suddenly breaking into bathos has some similarities but also obvious differences.
Why does comedy both translate badly and age badly? Horror doesn’t to quite the same extent.
